Outsourced

Wait, what?  I have a blog.  Oh right.  I remember now.

So I haven’t been updating nearly as often as a good blogger should.  I do have my hands full with Strahotski.com, though, and I don’t really watch many movies during the fall.

But I did just watch a gem from Netflix that is worthy of a blog post.  It was one of those that Netflix recommended.

Usually Netflix’s recommendations are a joke, but the wife put Outsourced in the queue anyway and we gave it a watch.

outsourced1.jpgOnly after I watched and researched the film did I realize that it was highly decorated at the Toronto Film Festival.

The movie is all about a man who’s job is outsourced to India.  In a cruel twist of fate, he’s assigned to train his replacement to do his job efficiently and as “American” as possible.

Along his journey he finds a myriad of things including love, tolerance, acceptance, and peace.

I know almost nothing about India, and I can’t really be sure whether or not the director captured Indian life effectively or not.

But what I can say is that the director approached India not as an enemy stealing our jobs, but as a culture and people who are unique and beautiful.  By the end, I loved India too.

The acting was superb, primarily from the lead (Josh Hamilton) and his love interest (Ayesha Dharker).  But the supporting characters also bring a lot of charm to the film as well.

It would have been easy for this film to just be a romantic comedy and fail to embrace its subject matter, but it doesn’t.

Instead it really gets into the lives of its characters, and watches its main character deal with a lot more than just love.

I don’t want to give too much away, because watching it without knowing nearly anything about it was part of the charm of watching Outsourced.

If you have Netflix, add it to your queue.  If you don’t, then find another way to watch it (can you still rent movies at brick & mortars?).

Also, as a bit of trivia, Ayesha Dharker was Queen Jamillia in Star Wars (the Queen of Naboo after Padme Amidala).

Verdict: A  Tilt: A+
