had almost monthly experiences with this as a teenager. after i decided i was not important enough to be singled out by the forces of evil i found i could relax and drift back to sleep and have almost complete control of my dream story from then on. i could introduce whatever plot turns and super powers or musical abililties i wanted. i also had the ability to talk to people (my mom) who thought i had been awakened, repeat instructions and have no recollection .

I have experienced this on many occassions and it will freak you out like nothing else. I've felt fully awake, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not open my eyes or even wiggle a toe. Then all of a sudden control comes back and I shoot up out of the bed.

I'm a pretty heavy sleeper anyway, plus I exhibit other sleep related phenomena, such as having conversations in my sleep with loved ones (and college roomates) and not remembering them. Oh ya, I also do math problems in my sleep, or so I'm told.

Talk about a wierdo...
