On the heels of Paramount’s decision to drop support for Sony’s Blu-Ray disc format, director Michael Bay has piped up — and he’s hopping mad.
In a forum post on his own website, Michael Bay has admonished Paramount for dropping Blu-Ray and claimed that he wouldn’t be working on Transformers 2 if all it could ever hope to see is HD-DVD.
Quite a bold statement to make. The Transformers franchise is certainly a cash cow for Paramount, and having it lose any steam is sure to make someone pay attention.
Whether Bay is just venting or would seriously walk away from the project on this principle remains to be seen.
I would hate to see Bay walk away from our robots in disguise, but as long as Megan Fox stays put, I’ll be watching.
First of all, Michael Bay is a giant blow hole for even thinking he should make a statement in this way. If you want to stand up and say “I hope Paramount reverses this decision because I think Blue-Ray is going to be the best way to see the entire Transformers Franchise” fine. But don’t go and stick your foot in your mouth and shoot yourself with it. Bay is replaceable. As much as I enjoyed staring at Megan Fox, she is replaceable. All the voices actors: replaceable. Only The Beef needs to come back. Heck, even that isn’t strictly necessary, but it would help hold the movies together. Michael Bay is not the only man who makes things go ’splodey pretty.
Looks like Paramount slapped Mike around a little, and now he’s singing a different tune:

He seems to be attributing his lapse in judgment to staying up past his bedtime.

But thanks for the update. :)
Here’s another take on the story:
