So Live Free or Die Hard hit theaters yesterday. Although I hoped for the best, I have to admit that I was skeptical about the concept of the movie.
I’m not sure how I feel about this redux of old 80s movie brought back by their now old protagonists. Seems a little bit like a mid-life crisis move to me.
But low and behold, John McClane is back with a vengeance.
Rotten Tomatoes (who doesn’t average much of anyone a good score) is rating Live Free or Die Hard at 76%. For perspective, that’s over 50% better than Evan Almighty’s 23%.
The Critic average at Yahoo! Movies is a respectable B, while the users are weighing in at an A-.
Even Richard Roeper likes it, opening his review with “John McClane is the Energizer Bunny, Chuck Wepner and Batman rolled into one.” Who doesn’t love the Energizer Bunny?
From reading the reviews, it sounds to me like this may well be the best reviewed summer blockbuster of 2007 thus far.
So now I’m torn. I need a weekend off from movie watching for both my budget and my sanity, but can I ever forgive myself for passing up such a gem? Find out next week.
Maybe you should check out Die Hard 12 instead.
