Cryptid Corner: Nessie

Published under Cryptids, Paranormal.

Inspired by Bruce Schneier’s Friday Squid Blogging, I start my Cryptid Corner. First off from wikipedia:

Cryptids are creatures presumed extinct, hypothetical species, or creatures known from anecdotal evidence and/or other evidence insufficient to prove their existence with scientific certainty.”

Our first cryptid is one of the more fantastical ones: the Loch Ness Monster, otherwise known as Nessie. Although this is one of the more improbable cryptids, it’s particularly relevant right now after an amateur scientist from Yorkshire caught Nessie on film on May 26, 2007.

You can catch up with that story from:

Certainly, Gorden Holmes has caught some sort of animal on film. It looks like a snake to me, but if his reports of its 45 foot length are correct, it’s far too large for a normal snake.

Initial reactions from the community are that it is the best evidence thus far due to the quality of the film, which will lead analysts to be able to verify its length and speed.

Though it will likely take months, it will be interesting indeed to find out what Mr. Holmes truly captured on film. Whether it puts an end to the Loch Ness mystery or verifies that something is out there, it’ll put science one step closer to identifying what exactly people have seen over the years.
