Honor”less”

Red Skeletal Warhorse w/ an Orc Female RogueFor anyone who plays World of Warcraft, there’s no escaping the sweeping changes that the recent patch has wrought. The biggest (and perhaps most controversial) of them all is the new changes to the honor system. Weapons meant for the cream of the crop can now be had by anyone in a few days. Naturally, those who slaved away for literally months to get their gear are miffed.

Personally, I love the change. It took some dedication and a lot of hard work, but my Rogue is now sporting a High Warlord’s Razor. I was in a raiding guild for months and months. We had worked up to Nef and never had I got my hands on a Perdition’s Blade or a Dragonfang Blade. Luck was not with me.

But the honor system gives me a way to change my own stars as it were. While I was doomed to always wield the subpar Gutgore Ripper before, now I can work hard and be guaranteed the items I want and need. This is a godsend. I’m no longer dependent on blind luck to upgrade my character.

It’s been stated that the future of instances will place a number of items on the “token” system meaning that anyone can turn in a token to get an item appropriate for them. So, in a sense, raiding will guarantee that an item for you will drop every single time. I think this is the best idea since sliced pally.

I’m just happy to have my razor and new mount (pictured above). Let’s hope Blizz stays on track and makes more of the game accessible. It bums me out a little that in 2 years of playing, I’ve never seen AQ40 or Naxxramas. That’s just not cool. I’m pretty hardcore and I haven’t seen those instances, so imagine what percentage of the player base has never seen them? It must be huge. Can that truly be a good use of Blizzard’s money? Of your subscription fees?

Anyway, 3 cheers to the new honor system. It’s a step in the right direction for making the game both accessible and rewarding.
